HPE BLc3000 CTO Blade Enclosure – Rack
HPE BLc3000 CTO Blade Enclosure – Rack
The HP BladeSystem c3000 Rack enclosure has the flexibility to scale from a single enclosure holding up to 8 blades, to a rack containing 7 enclosures holding up to 56 blades, the c-Class infrastructure is designed to meet the needs of today’s businesses.
NOTE: This enclosure includes 6 HPE Active Cool 100 Fans, a DVD drive, Rack Rails and a Single DDR2 Onboard Administrator module.

The c3000 enclosure is designed for several markets:
- Remote sites or branch offices holding between 3 and 8 servers, and in deployment sites such as retail stores, branch offices, manufacturing sites, and wiring closets. This enclosure is also designed for harsh environments not found in modern datacenters (high ambient temperatures, dusty environments, and in ships, airplanes, platforms, and vehicles).
- Small and medium businesses, who own between 3 and 100 servers. The enclosure is designed for use with management devices such as local KVM switches for local administration.
- Datacenters with special power and cooling constraints, such as datacenters needing DC powered racks, and/or datacenters with low power & cooling capacities (under 3000 watts per rack).
- HPC clusters with InfiniBand interconnection, where the applications need a 1 to 1 IB network subscription ratio between physical nodes in the compute cluster.
Know your Server – CTO Configuration Support
HPE BladeSystem c3000 Base Knowledge.
HPE Blades solution starts with either the c3000 or the c7000 Blade Enclosure. The HPE Enclosure can handle any Gen1 to Gen10 ProLiant or Integrity server. You will need to make sure that the Onboard Administrator has the right firmware for support.
This c3000 Blade Enclosure can hold up to a MAX of 8 1U HPE Blade servers or 4 2U Blade Expansion servers in any combination. Mixing of Blade sizes is not supported in Zone 1. This system comes with 2 Zones split Horizontally on the enclosure. Each zone has a bay divider to support the Half Height Blade Servers. When installing a Full-height blade server you must remove the bay divider.
Expansion blades are only supported with another blade installed as Partner Blade Support. You can install 4 expansion blades as each one will need a partner for a total of 8 blades which is max for this enclosure. If you plan to install a full-height blade server as the partner blade support for the expansion blade. This can only be done in Zone 2 where 1 full-height blade server can support up to 2 Expansion blades in slots 4 and 8. If you only want one expansion blade with the full-height blade server. Please install the expansion blade in slot 8 and keep slot 4 open for a blank or another half-height server. This half-height server in slot 4 will not support the expansion blade.
When mixing blade sizes in zone 2, you must install the full-height blade server in slots 3 and 7 after removing the bay divider. The system will then support half-height blades in slots 4 and 8. Please make sure to populate slot 4 before slot 8. For more information on rules and guidelines for mixing server blade size. Please read the manual below.
HPE BladeSystem c3000 Interconnect and Networking
You have 2 redundant I/O interconnect fabrics that are supported with the enclosure simultaneously. This HPE c3000 BladeSystem Enclosure can support Ethernet, FC, Virtual Connect, and SAS. Interconnects must be ordered in quantities of two for redundancy support. Please note that Interconnect Bay 1 must contain one of the Network Interconnects.
HPE BladeSystem c3000 Cooling
This system can support 6 fans for max blade support. If you only install 4 fans then the BladeSystem can only support 4 half-height server blades in zone 1 of the enclosure. The HPE BladeSystem has an Onboard Administrator that will help with making sure the system has the fans and the blades installed correctly before it allows the enclosure to power on.
HPE BladeSystem c3000 PSU
This system holds 6 PSU to support the max 8 Blade Servers. Each enclosure must include only one type of power supply. Mixing of power supplies is not supported unless during hot-swap to a different level or higher efficiency. If you do mix the PSUs the Onboard Administrator will throw an error. For a full enclosure, you can either order 4 or more power supplies to support an N+1 redundant configuration or 6 power supplies to support an N+N redundant configuration.
